THE BIG MOVE!!!

The Big Move is done!! We are still polishing the new spot and thanks to all of you who came to lend a hand, we couldn’t have done it with out you! Just in case you didn’t hear, we are now directly across the street from the old location. The new address is 460 Cerrillos Road. We are the Cerrillos /Sandoval split now! I will be striping the parking lot soon, but you will see there is easy parking around the building from every side, come on down a check it out!! Please park at the new location, or at a meter on Sandoval. It is important that we make every effort not to park in the old lot behind the old location, thanks!

Norm’s tying class for December is on Saturday the 12th from 9:30-12:30. You must sign up for this class and space is limited to eight tiers. Remember if you take a class at High Desert Angler you always get 15% off all your fly tying materials the day of the class!! So learn something new and get a great price on materials to boot!!

Dr. Scott Sparrow from the Kingfisher Inn will be in town on Friday December 18th to put on a slide show and video about the Laguna Madre of south Texas. Scott is an excellent photographer, an awesome captain and one heck of an author as well. Along with his photos and video he will be available for a book signing both before and after the show. We took a great group of anglers down to fish with Scott around the first of November and had a great time. All the Captains are superb on the fly and I would recommend Randy, Rick, Roel, and Scott to anyone headed to the Laguna Madre. I must admit, I love fishing for Redfish, especially in my home state of Texas, but fishing with Ed and all the guys who went down with us was really the highlight. We all caught fish and there were at least six Red Fish caught that pushed the 30” mark. Come on down around 5:00-5:30 mingle, eat, drink, buy a book from Scott and have him sign it. Healing the Fisher King is a really good book and will make a great gift for the angler in the family.

2010 Big Horn Dates: June 5-13!!!! I have been going to FT. Smith MT to fish the Big Horn River below the Yellow Tail Reservoir since June of 2000. I really like this time of year on the ‘Horn, first off the crowds are minimal, and our local rivers are still in run-off. This makes this trip the perfect primer for the up coming Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado season. Not to mention The Big Horn is quite possibly one of the top 5 tail waters on the planet. Out of 24 spots over the 8 days I will be there I know I only have 8 to 10 spots available. This is the kind of trip you want to do again and again and most of the returning anglers have been going with me since my second or third trip. So give a call for details and to sign up. The price stays the same, $1600 per person for four nights and three days of guided fishing. All meals, lodging and flies are included, you must get a MT fishing license and you have to get yourself there and back.

Winter Deals for you and yours!! I say it every year, “It may not be the best to give but it’s the best to get!!” I’m talking about Gift Cards no doubt, and it’s what the true angler really wants!!! After so many seasons with all of these anglers from all over the country and the world it is apparent that we as anglers are very picky about our equipment, and apparel. Sure, buy me a fishing shirt and I’ll wear it, even a Windstopper jacket, or a stocking cap with some new fingerless gloves. Those are great gifts, but what I really want is a new rod and reel, or a new pair of boots and waders. Maybe deep inside I am sick of the old vest and I am ready for one of those killer new fanny packs!! This is what the angler on your list is thinking. My point is only that these are things I have got to make my own decision on, and I need to cast it or feel it or stuff boxes in it to see how it works, maybe try it all on so I know it fits and the boots feel right. This friends, is where the gift card shines. This is the gift that’s sure to be a favorite. Let the angler on your list remain as picky as a San Juan Rainbow, after all, it’s our nature. There are still quite a few discontinued items, and all are marked down from 20% to over 60% off. Come see the new store and take advantage of these offers!!! See you here or on the water!!!

THE BIG MOVE!!
BUY IT NOW SO WE DON’T HAVE TO MOVE IT!!!

Yes, you read it right, we are moving again! This time it feels really good too, our new location is 460 Cerrillos Rd, directly across the street from where we are currently. Now we really are right at the Cerrillos Sandoval split, heck we are the split now. Great parking, easy access, more space, and some great deals with the always friendly expert advice you know us for. To help lighten the load and make room for new 2010 items we are marking all the discontinued items down even more. We have stuff from 20% to over 60% off. This includes boots, waders, saltwater rods, fly boxes, flies and more. Bare with us through the next couple weeks as a move tends to take it’s toll on anyone. We will be in the new location on Monday November 23rd. Rest assured though, 2010 is going to be a great year for fly fishing and High Desert Angler is stepping it up a notch in several ways. Stay tuned, come get some gear, and check out the new digs, it’s just going to get better and better!!!

Starting on September 1st we have decided to make a slight adjustment on the way we deal with returning a rod to the manufacturer for warranty repair. The consumer can go to our website and link directly to the manufacturer where you can download a repair form and ship the item on your own. You can pay by credit card, check or money order included with your repair. If you would like us to take care of this service, we will complete the repair form, pack, ship, insure, and track your package all the way back to the shop and call you when it arrives for a total cost of $75 plus tax. The shipping costs for us have gone up so much that with out this in-shop increase we simply can’t afford this service for our customers. The benefit to you having us ship your item is that we have the shipping tubes, packing material, a UPS pick up and daily drop off, and a commercial addresses where the package has to be signed for. We want to be able to assist you in every way, and we hope this isn’t really anything but extending our service to you in a way that covers our costs in the shipping and handling category, thank you for your understanding.

Sales! Sales! Sales! This is the time of year where we get to mark down a few items that are slated to be discontinued. Some of these deals might be better than waiting to see the latest and greatest for next year. We have vests, shirts, wading boots, and even some waders that are marked down from 25%-50% off. If you’re looking for an inexpensive reel, there are a few left and priced to move, especially if you are looking for a nice salt water reel. If a salt water rod is in your future, Sage has just announced the Xi2’s are on the chopping block. They are all down almost $200 and I really only have a few left. These are great rods with lifetime warranties.

Help keep the lights on! The Upper Pecos Watershed Association is hard at work in its efforts to improve water quality in the Pecos and its tributaries, provide better recreational opportunities, and preserve the traditional cultures of the Pecos Watershed. Another Huge Thank You Goes Out to all of our visiting anglers and most importantly our local anglers who really got out there and fished their hearts out this season. I was truly impressed with the amount of feed back, reports, and over all support all of our customers helped out with this year. We saw all of our old friends and made a bunch of new ones at the same time

"He is a great representative for the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish." Howes earned a masters degree in Wildlife Science from New Mexico State University. Congratulations to Phil on this award, he is a very hard working officer and has a tough job keeping his assigned area safe while improving our state's wildlife.

We Have a Winner!!!! With great honor and pleasure we are proud to announce our first annual youth photo contest winner Henry Kuchta!!! Henry lives up north of Questa with his little brother Joaquin, Dad Chuck and Mother Kathy. Chuck and their family friend Steve Hoxie have been hard at work teaching Henry the fine art of fly fishing and catch and release. They fish some area ponds and lakes. But really love to the Costilla, Latir Creek, Red River, Rio Grande, and the Culebra in Southern Colorado. Henry’s photo won him a Ross World Wide 476-4 Journey built just for kids!! Great job Henry, now that we know you can out fish Steve and your Dad, you are an honorary HDA Field Staff member as well!! Way to go, Henry!!!!
