Captain Mark Nesbit of Blue Sky Flyfishing will be holding a seminar at the Sportsman Warehouse in Albuquerque on August 28th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. It will be a in depth look at presentation techniques, from sight fishing. nymphing, dry fly, and streamers, that he uses on the San Juan, and Navajo Lake. He will go over the the cast, the hook set, the playing of the fish. the landing, and release. Also rigging suggestions, and basic knots that are used. There will be a Q and A time. He will also give some insight on fishing Navajo lake. The goal is to help all of you be more successful the next time out.

The Zia diner is supporting the Truchas Chapter Youth Education Program (TCYEP) tomorrow Tuesday July 27th with 10% of their profits being donated to us. If you have time, please join us for food, drink, and lots of fish tales. TYCEP chair John Wright will be there at 5:45 for drinks and dinner. TCYEP is geared toward encouraging our youth to be stewards of our natural resources through several programs including Trout In the Classroom. We're looking forward to another great school year with our NM youths! Please support TCYEP and businesses like the Zia Diner.

Tai Chi Fly Fishing on the River. July 17th is the graduation day for those who participated in our spring Tain Chai Fly Fishing classes. If you are one of the participants or are curious and want to check it out, the date is Saturday July 17th. Meet at the Willow Creek day use area at 9:45 am. Bring your rod and waders and a sack lunch-. We will do a review, working on understanding balance and "core" knowledge followed by it's application while fly fishing. The cost is $45.00 per person. We need six people to cover the class. Please call the shop or Doug Brown to reserve your spot at 505-660-9906.
Please come the Upper Pecos Watershed Association Benefit at Brush Ranch on Sunday July 18th. The theme is Water, Wildflowers and Trout; A Benefit for the Upper Pecos Watershed Association. Brush Ranch is located on NM Highway 63 approximately 12 miles north of Pecos. The event starts at 5:00 pm with a social hour, silent auction, and entertainment. Dinner will be at 6:00 pm followed by a live auction. The cost is $60.00 per person. The event is limited to 120 people, so don't wait. The Rio Costilla and Shuree Ponds on the Valle Vidal unit of the Carson National Forest opens Thursday July 1st. This area is truly a scenic gem for New Mexico. It's loaded with elk, bison, and turkey, but it usually draws people for the fishing. The Rio Costilla is one place you can reliably catch a Rio Grande Cutthroat and Shuree Ponds are known for it's large rainbows. The stream is dry fly fishing at it's best. High riding attractor like PMX's and Aerial Assault's, and yellow sallies and caddis flies work very well on those quick striking cutties. Take damsel nymphs and some aquatic snail patterns for the lunkers at Shuree. All of the streams in the Valle Vidal are no kill. The bag limit for Shuree is only 2 fish over 15 inches. Please report anyone breaking thes rules to New Mexico Game and Fish at 800-432-4263 or the Forest Service at 575-586-0520.
