Announcements for the Week os October 22, 2007

WE ARE MOVING, AGAIN! This time we'll be a lot easier to find as we are only moving next door in the space formerly occupied by Wild Mountain Outfitters. We are gaining a bigger and brighter space with better visibility on Cerrillos Road. To facilitate the move, we will be closing Sunday October 28th and reopening in the new space on Wednesday October 31st. Come see our new home and celebrate our move on Friday November 23rd.

The High Desert Angler's fall through spring hours is from 10:00 AM till 6:00 PM Monday through Saturday and 11:00 AM till 4:00 PM on Sundays.

The Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited is seeking individuals willing to serve on their local Board of Directors. Many of the current board members are nearing the end of their terms and some are feeling a bit stretched. The only requirement is a desire to contibute ideas, opinions, expertise, and a certain amount of time. Many current conservation projects underway and need new blood with vigor and enthusiasm. New Mexico Trout would like to invite you to attend its 4th Annual Fly Tying Symposium on Saturday, November 10, 2007; at Sandia Prep School. The symposium runs at 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Along with tying demmonstrations there will be Door Prizes. Sandia Prep School is located at 532 Osuna Rd, in Albuquerque. The cost is, Children 15 and under-FREE, NMT Members $5 and $7 for non-members.

The Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited is having their annual Christmas party on Monday December 3, 2007. It is open to all Trout Unlimited members as well as anyone interested in what the chapter is doing. The get together will include cocktails, dinner, and a general membreship meeting. Attendees will brought up to date on chapter news and a variety of conservation projects underway. There will also be a presentation by New Mexico Trout on their petition to have the Rio Guadalupe listed as an Outstanding Natural Resource Water.

Please save the date of March 1, 2008 for the Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited annual banqet. It will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Santa Fe. Cocktails start at 6 pm and dinner at 7 pm. The featured speaker is Dr. Robert J. Behnke. He is a professor emeritus of Colorado State University and one of the world's foremost experts on trout and salmon. He provided the scientific underpinnings offor the work of last year's speaker, James Prosek, artist and author of several well rearded books. Dr. Behnke also writes the column "About Trout" in Trout Unlimited's national journal "Trout".

Lastly, a commercial announcement. Sage Manufacturing and Scott Fly Rods have both announced discontinuations of their SLT line and S3 and S3s lines respectively. We have some left and are offering them at 30% off of 2007 retail prices or buy one at regular price and get one free. Simms and Cloudveil have also announced discontinuations in their Gore-Tex wader lines and will be discounted at 30% off of 2007 retail prices or buy one at regular price and get one free. Saturday October 20th is Dia del Rio. Pleases celebrate this day and give back to our rivers. The Upper Pecos Watershed Association, the Pecos Community Foundation, and the Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited will be sponsoring another Pecos River Cleanup. Meet at the Blessed Pecos Gallery (1/4 mile north of the main Pecos intersection, across from St. Anthony's Church) at 8:30 am. Get gloves and trash bags and a cleanup assignment. Cleanup is from 9 AM till noon with a sponsored (free) lunch at 12:30 pm. There will be river blessing ceremony and entertainment to follow including door prizes, fly tying demonstrations, information booths and a draw the river contest with prizes for the kids. Amigos Bravos also sponsors the Dia del Rio event on the Rio Grande at Pilar.
