The annual Spring River Cleanup on the Pecos will be this Saturday, June 26! Please meet us at the Upper Pecos Watershed Association office at 78 S. Main Street in Pecos at 9:00 am. Come get coffee, pastries and to your cleanup assignments. Bags, gloves and safety vests will be provided. We will be giving away stainless steel water bottles to all volunteers! The BBQ picnic will be at the Jamie Koch Pavilion following the cleanup at 12 noon. Pecos River BBQ Company will be doing the cooking (food will be donated)! We will also be having a bucket raffle with great prizes. If you have items you would like to donate for the bucket raffle, or would like more information please call the UPWA office at 757-3600 and speak to Rachel or Lexy.
Volunteers from New Mexico Trout will be putting on a youth and an adult fly fishing clinic on the Valles Caldera this next weekend. The youth clinic is on Saturday June 26th and the adult is on Sunday June 27th. Both clinics are very affordable, especially for the youth. All gear will be provided. Our good friend and owner of the Enchanted Hideaway Lodge, Gretchen Lee passed away Sunday, June 6th. She was well known throughout the community of Navajo Dam and the San Juan River. She had the biggest heart and the softest spot in it was for dogs. She rescued dozens and often took in the ones no one else wanted. As a huge lover of dogs myself, Saint Gretchen will always occupy a soft spot in my heart. Those who knew this wonderful woman will surely miss her. Her lodge in Navajo Dam is currently open for business. Still a great place to stay, especially if you get the Stone House and share it with a few fishing buddies.
The Pecos National Historical Park and the Valles Caldera National Preserve operate fishing programs on their respective properties. The summer fishing season at Pecos NHP starts this Thursday June 24th. The Valles Caldera opened up to fishing on May 22nd. They no longer have the lottery system in place.
