The dates for the High Spring Peak Release out of Navajo Dam has been set. Currently the release should stay around 500-650 until the scheduled high water flows. As of now the projected increase will start on Monday May 23rd and increase a 1000cfs a day up to 5000 cfs on Friday May 27th. The river flow will remain at 5000 cfs for a week until Thursday June 2nd and will drop to 500 cfs by Tuesday June 7th. Fishing can be very good during the high release. Just be extra careful while wading and make sure to clean off any moss on you rig so the fish can see your flies.

Annual Pecos River cleanup is on Saturday June 4, 2011. Please meet at the UPWA office at 9 am for coffee, pastries and assignments. We will be having our BBQ picnic at the Jamie Koch Pavilion after the Cleanup and Buck Bradford of Pecos River BBQ Co. will be cooking up his fabulous brisket (we will also have a vegetarian dish). Free stainless steel water bottles for all Cleanup participants! Please call Lexy at (505) 757-3600 or e-mail upwa@cybermesa.com for more information. We look forward to seeing you!

The Spring Fishing progaram on the Valles Caldera National Preserve starts Saturday May 21st. There may be a chance to walk on on the opening day but I'd bet that most of the reaches are filled. You can still apply for other dates in their program by visiting their website at http://vallescaldera.gov/.
