Happy New Year and many thanks to all of you who have contributed to the success of the High Desert Angler. We are fortunate to have a clientel that supports small local businesses. Being in the business of fun, we feel very grateful to you all have spent your hard earned dollars with us. With the economy not having quite rebounded,, the fires we had over the summer and resulting forest closures, we realize that how lucky we are to be in this business and to serve the customers that keep us here. Please be safe this holiday season and we wish you all the best in the coming New Year.

The $300,000 fish habitat improvement project on the San Juan River below Navajo Dam concluded last week. The project was designed to enhance fishing opportunities in two ways: by reducing silt deposits from flash-flood events, and by creating deeper pools for fish during periods of low flow from Navajo Dam. Work in “The Braids,” has been very productive as fish have moved into this new habitat where they previously weren't. If you've been since the project was completed, please give me an e-mail and let me know.
