The Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited is having their annual Christmas Party on Thursday December 8th at the Cow Girl Hall of Fame in Santa Fe. The party runs from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. There will be a featured speaker, Rebecca Oertel, staff biologist from the Valles Caldera National Preserve. Rebecca will be giving a presentation on the Las Conchas Fire and post-fire environments on the VCNP.
The $300,000 fish habitat improvement project on the San Juan River below Navajo Dam concluded last week. The project was designed to enhance fishing opportunities in two ways: by reducing silt deposits from flash-flood events, and by creating deeper pools for fish during periods of low flow from Navajo Dam. Work in “The Braids,” has been very productive as fish have moved into this new habitat where they previously weren't.
